Posted on November 27th, 2007 in Google, News, Utilities | 1 Comment »

The new Android SDK from Google is all set to make new standards for mobile application development. Android SDK in Google’s own words is,

A software stack for mobile devices including an operating system, middleware and key applications. Developers can create applications for the platform using the Android SDK. Applications are written using the Java programming language and run on Dalvik, a custom virtual machine designed for embedded use which runs on top of a Linux kernel.

Apart from the platform, the UI looks promising. It can be even slated to compete with the UI of Apple iPhone. The features are worth drooling over. Check this video presentation made by Sergey Brin and his associate, Steve Horowitz. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted on November 18th, 2007 in News | 9 Comments »

Hey readers, I have not ditched my blog and don’t intend too either. Its probably my enthusiasm surrounding my intention of purchasing a first digital camera which may have slowed down a bit of my posting spree. Hopefully I would recover soon over my photography instincts. But at the moment, I am truly exasperated at the end of a 2 week long research for the best digital camera considering,

  1. Ease of use
  2. Full use of manual as well as automatic features
  3. LCD Live Preview
  4. Gives the best image quality
  5. Has set a standard amongst fellow photographers
  6. Has good warranty
  7. Last but not the least has given a value for the money spent

So, folks the race has stopped and the winner has been chosen. Yesterday I bought Read the rest of this entry »

You must be well aware of the Google doodle’s to mark an occasion or to celebrate something important. Now it seems to do something similar in Orkut. Orkut is sporting a brand new theme, especially for Diwali. This will surely bring the large numbers of Indians who mostly are Orkut users, a new kind of enthusiasm igniting the spirit of Diwali even more. Looking more closely, the Diwali theme displays the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar. I could not however, make out what the other buildings represented.

What Makes Facebook Win Over Orkut?

Posted on October 26th, 2007 in Google, Microsoft, News, Social Networks | 42 Comments »

I was quite surprised to see the news in the headlines today about the deal of Microsoft with the social networking site Facebook. Facebook is a 3 and a half year old social network for friendship and a community hub. Microsoft’s entry into the social networking venue has raised quite a many eyebrows over the fact that,

Microsoft paid $240 million price for 1.6% stake in Facebook. This clears the view , world’s largest software maker, crudely wanted to deepen its relationship with a startup that didn’t have $200 million in annual revenue

This deal was the only thing which made me to open an account with Facebook. The only other friendship community I am associated till now was Orkut which in my opinion definitely gives a far more friendly user experience than FaceBook, especially now after having registered with Facebook.

I did look around for the reason as to why users prefer FaceBook over Orkut and was surprised to see that Facebook users are more than the number of Orkut users. Read the rest of this entry »

Advertising Touches New Heights on the Internet

Posted on October 15th, 2007 in News, Opinions, Utilities | No Comments »

Tell me a place which is deprived of advertisements. You won’t think of that so easily. Life has become today an advertising gimmick. There are advertisements on billboards, neon signs, roads, streets, even the lame rocks are not spared despite the government putting a ban on them. The sole purpose of such gimmicks is not only to get viewership or an increase in sales but to break out of the mold of traditional formats of advertising and make people long for it.

This fashion of advertising has been long displayed many histrionics in the massively trafficked world of the internet and espcially blogs. Google which started as a search engine provider quickly went on to become the biggest advertiser on the world wide web. Due to this blogs have started to increase in numbers exponentially because Google has the Adsense program which helps blog owners to earn some money for the information they provide freely. The impact of blogs is quite commendable to the way the internet has got structured.

The trends in advertising after the launch of Google Adsense has never been the same. I have known some techniques of advertising which are worth appreciating because they don’t harm the view of the reader but in fact help the reader gain more quick access to the information available on the exhaustive web.

Some of the great advertising campaigns which have come into my blogging tenure till now have been Read the rest of this entry »

India finally has THE winning captain!

Posted on September 22nd, 2007 in News, Offbeat | 5 Comments »

This would definitely be an offbeat post in this blog but this is something which I cannot withstand of sharing.

India today where impeccable in the semi finals of the Twenty20 world cup versus the unbeaten one day and test match cricket champions Australlia. India proved that this format was a different ball game to them after all. Having been favorites for a long time now India were far from being the favorites amongst the experts and commentators alike but fickle minded audience along with me were in the hoards of the simple yet amazingly brilliant and fresh Indian team which took storm after they chalked out Pakistan in the qualifiers and the unbeaten host South Africa in the quarter finals.

Now yet again they will brandishing their greatest strength to Pakistan in the grand finale. The greatest strength of the current Indian team is the dark horse in the form of a wicket keeper and in the boots of the caption, the wise and the visceral, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He has showed the team how he can lead the path for the future of the Indian team and I believe that the long thirst of a great leader for the team is starting to quench. Dhoni is an example of quality leadership, hard work with dedication and getting the basic right. The most applaudable comment and the belief that Read the rest of this entry »
