MyEclipse already does something similar. If you create a new web project, and then you go to the "Deployment" menu, you can specify that you want to deploy it as an "Expanded Project" and the deployment location.. Whenever you make a change that compiles and validates correctly, MyEclipse will automatically deploy you app to its destination. It is also smart enought to move the class, jsp, and other configuration files.

MyEclipse cost less than $100 a year, and those are some of the best dollar I have spent.

When I do the following steps The Context Path shows up under the manager but the web application will not start. It just says the web application at the context path could not start. Any ideas what is wrong. I can undeploy and sure enough it removes the myapp.xml file without deleting my virtual web folder. It just will not start. I'm using Apache Tomcat 6

Its good information but for novices. I barely use the manager though. Just tell the tomcat where my distribution directory is and be done with it. Since tomcat is mostly used for dev purposes. Reloadable is actually quite useful as in some cases we don't have to restart the tomcat after making certain changes in the code.

@Karthik - Thats the way in which I do my testing of a web app currently. But if you have Eclipse Europa i.e. version 3.3 then you can directly choose "Run on Server"

Good man,
actually it would be useful, if we setup some project in eclipse and make the tomcat to point to our workspace or structure

for ex , Let have some workspace in eclipse
myworkspace
A new java project TestProject with
folders src, resources, test/src, target, web.
Now we can write build.xml or maven.xml script to construct the folders of webapp structure in target

and point to it from tomcat.
